Are you wondering what courses you need to work as a yacht stew? What will you learn from a stewardess course? Will doing a yacht stew course guarantee you a junior stew role? A lot of companies do not explicitly tell you that having a yacht stewardess training course on your CV is NOT going to guarantee you a job (Unfortunately!) — nothing will when doing training courses to work in the yachting industry.

However, there are solid reasons why completing a yacht stewardess course prior to gaining your first job in the industry has far more benefits to you than just ticking a box for the CV.

1. It will give you the practical skills and knowledge to take on board and do a really great job at being a stew with all that information behind you. Allowing you to impress your chief stew, beat the probation period (Usually 3 months) and gain permanent employment.
   
   Practical skills you will learn include how to do housekeeping tasks such as making a master bed, turning up and down a bed, and how to detail cabins onboard to superyacht standards.
   
   Laundry tasks such as how to manage a guest’s wardrobe, how to correctly iron (Linen, Guest Clothes, Uniforms) and use the machines from the roller to steam iron to other machines used onboard.
   
   As well as superyacht service including silver service and other types commonly used for meals, wine service, cocktail making and other beverages.

   No matter what size vessel you are stepping onto… sole stew, small charter yacht and larger boats.
   
   If you are looking at doing a stew course… ask yourself this – what is the biggest transformation I am going to get out of it? Rather than ticking a box to say you’ve done a stew course.

There are many companies around the world that offer stewardess training courses and these can range anywhere from $400 – $4500 USD. Some run for weeks and are ‘all inclusive’ of food and accommodation, some are internationally recognised with the IAMI GUEST Program and some are individually run companies.
