A Day in the Life

🌅 Morning Routine

• 6:00 AM: Step onto the deck, take in the sunrise over Fraser Island – the world’s largest sand island.
• Set up for breakfast service: Lay placemats, glassware, cutlery, plates, and pre-prepped napkins. Turn on the coffee machine.
• Touch base with the chef about the breakfast menu.
• Juice prep: Freshly squeezed and into the fridge.
• Tidy the main areas: Fluff cushions, dust, check and clean the day head.
• Set up decks with sunscreen baskets and towels.

☕ Guest Wake-Up & Morning Service

• Offer guests coffee or juice as they wake up.
• Serve breakfast, replenish food, clear plates, reset the table.
• Start guest cabin housekeeping: make beds, clean bathrooms, check for personal laundry.
• Keep vacuum/cleaning gear out of sight and always double-check before exiting a room.

🧺 Mid-Morning: Housekeeping & Laundry

• Complete guest cabins and collect laundry.
• Guest laundry always takes priority—delicate items air-dried or engine-room dried (if safe).
• Keep washing machines running throughout the day (“a washing machine not in use is wasted!”).
• Vacuum, dust, and mop boat interior.

🧃 Restock & Reset

• Refill fridges with labelled water, soft drinks, and beers.
• Check rubbish bins and move waste to the anchor locker.
• If guests are still out—Check with the Captain and grab a swim or take a quick break!

🍽️ Lunch Prep & Service

• Confirm lunch plans with the chef.
• Set table with folded napkins, proper cutlery, and serving ware.
• Know your onboard wine selection to make pairing suggestions.
• Tackle small tasks: polish cutlery, unpack dishwasher, fold towels, reset cleaning caddy.
• Ask the main guest if they would like a particular wine served with lunch
• Prep pantry for service, serve lunch, clear dishes, clean service area.

🍹 Afternoon Flow

• Monitor guests lounging or doing activities.
• Provide drinks, snacks, tidy sunglasses, hats, and clothing.
• Stay alert to which areas guests use so they always appear ‘untouched’.
• Prep garnishes and stock bar for cocktail hour.
• Keep checking main dayheads and cabins throughout the day

🌇 Dinner & Evening Duties

• Change into night uniform; prep for dinner (canapés, wine selections, table setup).
• Begin setting lighting and helping with drinks service.
• While guests get ready, fit in final cabin turnovers if possible.
• Serve dinner, top up drinks, and quietly clear plates.
• End-of-night: final housekeeping in all cabins, turn-down service with water and chocolates.

🌙 Wind Down

• Final cleaning: dishes, tables, rubbish, bar.
• Dim lights, secure the space, and finally… bedtime (usually well after midnight!).

💬 Reflecting on the Day

This was one of the smoothest trips I’ve had, with some rare downtime while guests went fishing. I’ve worked on yachts from 28m–88m, and I truly love the casual, “family-like” feel of smaller boats.

I remember looking out over the water while cleaning and thinking:
